Although performances are not scheduled until September, 2012, at the Gaiety Theatre, in Douglas, it is hoped that we will get a calendar out for 2012 and which will be see proceeds going to a number of local charities hence the need to cast so far in advance.
This production has 3FM as its media partner.
RSC OPEN STAGES:
This initiative from the Royal Shakespeare Company sees over 250 amateur theatre groups across the UK involved in producing Shakespeare or Shakespeare-related work over the next year; the UK is divided into seven regions; each company is attached to a region and a number of them will have their work showcased.
In our case, our regional partner is the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. One production from each region will have the opportunity of performing at the RSC in Stratford in the summer of 2012. Our actual project will depend on those who wish to be involved but is unlikely to be a full-length Shakespeare play but rather a piece of work based around a theme from Shakespeare.
The Manx Shakespeare Players exists in name only. It is now time that people register their interest and we can begin the process of play-making. We will also need to establish a committee for the purpose of fund-raising and allocating specific roles to ensure that the performance works effectively (suggested venues include the amphitheatre at Douglas Head, Rushen Abbey, for example; again, media partners are 3FM. An exciting opportunity for all.
